Finally some quality cinematic entertainment

This weekend the boyfriend and I ventured out to Muvico. The past few outings have not been very impressive. We have sat through some really crappy movies like Martian Child and The Mist, and a mediocre one Charlie Wilson's War. This time I played no part in the choosing of the film...this is probably why it turned out so well.

Andy had "heard good things" about Juno. I knew absolutely nothing about this movie, nor had I seen a preview or trailer at all. But hey...we can usually manage to laugh at just about anything...so I figured "what the hell".

From the very first lines of the movie, I knew that I was going to really genuinely enjoy this movie. One of my favorite comedic actors, Rainn Wilson gave a short, yet highly amusing performance, featuring one of the funniest lines of the movie..."That's one doodle that can be undid, home skillet." (Which, by the way is happily featured in the trailer.) One of the really amazing thing about this movie is the casting. Every role is cast in such a way, that I could not criticize it in any way. The actors and actresses seem to be perfect for all of the selected roles, and I could not imagine any one else playing any of the roles. Another impressive feat is that the movie is incredibly witty, and has that indie feel to it, without feeling phonie...or pretentious. The movie is also accentuated by a really great soundtrack, which I have already downloaded and listened to at least twice.

Ultimately, yes this is one of those "feel good" movies. It is at times sappy, and a bit romantic. But the witty banter, and smart mouthed comments Juno makes, are more than enough to make it a very well rounded, stomachable, and quite entertaining piece of cinema, and stops just short of being a complete estrogen fest.

The video below is a compilation of clips from the movie set to the song "Anyone Else But You" performed by Michael Cera, and Ellen Page...which has been stuck in my head since we stepped out of Muvico... This video captures the romantic cheeze of the movie, so therefore you should not pre-judge based on this video alone.

Okay now that I have rambled on about all of the greatness of Juno...watch the trailer, and then go out to the local theater and see this movie...at least once.

I will end this blog by saying that the cheeseball in me has fallen completely in love with one line in the movie...probably because it really hit home with me.
"As far as boyfriends go...Paulie Bleeker is totally boss. He is the cheese to my macaroni."

"I am Legend" Legendarilly Bad???????

So I saw the movie "I am Legend" today with my long lost friend David today. The first half of the movie was absolutely excruciating. The second half is at least moderately better but that really isn't saying a whole lot.

I will not bore you all with a full run down but I will give you a quick dollar store recap with a few highlights.

Basically it is like they took Resident Evil, 28 Days Later, and Castaway and melded them all together to form another movie. Doesn't that pretty much say it all right there????

Over half of the movie, the only dialogue is between Will Smith, and a German Shepherd. And no...I am not talking a Shepherd from Germany...I am talking about the K9 version...the kind that doesn't talk back. He even at one point hit's on a female manequin who is looking at porno's at the video rental store. There was even an extremely pointless scene with Will Smith all greased up doing chin ups, making sexual noises. Eventually I think they realized that the movie was extremely boring...so they threw in a couple of characters. They are completely random, and you have no idea who they are or where they came from...all you know is that you don't give two shits about them.

The best part of the movie is when Will Smith has to kill the poor doggie. It should have been a really emotional and sad scene but I was cracking up. Not because I am a sick twisted individual, but because I had this insatiable urge to yell out "WILSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

So...don't waste the $10 bucks seeing this in a Theatre. In fact wait until there are like 5 people willing to chip in on the $4 rental...or Redbox it one night while drunk.

I was much more entertained by the previews and movie posters outside of the theater.
Samuel Jackson...everyone's favorite...I will do anything for a nickel actor...is going to be in a "smash hit" debuting February 15th, called "Jumper" The fact that it is staring Sam Jackson, and is coming out mid February should be enough to make you cringe...let alone sitting through the actual "theatrical trailer."

The next preview was for what is sure to be another crap fest. Starring Collin Farrel..yes...I guess he is still alive!
Check it out here

However I got the biggest laugh of the day from a poster outside of the theater. Which is the picture featured above. Is Katie Holmes allowed to be in movies anymore??? I thought it might be a breach in her arrangement with Tom. And is it just me or are they trying to make her look like she just got off of the Dawson's creek set yesterday or what???? Another movie that I am sure will make millions...but will not only be not entertaining, but make you want to shoot yourself after viewing.

CREATE YOUR OWN! - or - GET PAID TO TAKE SURVEYS!

You want to take me where?????????

Recycled from a MySpace post I did a while back

When I first heard this song I almost pissed my pants! I mean did I hear this correctly? Does Sean Kingston really want to take his "shorty" to the slums? WTF??????

I had to get online and double check the lyrics...and yes...they are as bad as it sounds.

Check out the lyrics here: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/seankingston/takeyouthere.html

Here are some "highlights"

* When gun shots just watch us, run quickly, I could show you where
* Might see something your not used to, welcome to the slums

Besides the completely asinine lyrics, the actual "music" is a complete rip off. Of what I am not quite sure, but the tune is terribly familiar. All I know is someone should be suing Sean Kingston over it.

Maybe I am just getting old but it seems to me that the "music" industry has become an machine that both operates on and produces piles of complete shit.
